At Oribi, we believe in the power of education and entrepreneurship to create positive life outcomes for South African youth. That is why we are thrilled to announce that some of our #GirlsinBusiness alumni have begun the next chapter in their economic enablement journey: the post-matric phase!
Partner Highlight:
We also want to take the time to congratulate our esteemed partners at Ikamva Youth, they have worked tirelessly to provide tutoring and support to high school learners in underserved communities, resulting in an outstanding 90% pass rate.
We're immensely proud of our partnership with Ikamva Youth, an organization dedicated to equipping South African youth with the tools they need to access better employment opportunities. Together, we've witnessed the resilience and determination of these young girls as they've navigated their educational and entrepreneurship journeys.
"The #GIB program is generally good. It is needed in our communities. It addresses a key component in the economic fabric of our society. We are still motivated to partner and improve its impact together.” Ikamva Youth District Manager, Luzuko Sidimba
Where are they now:
As these girls transition from high school into the next phase of their lives, we thought it would be important to initiate a ‘post-high school’ check in. This is a comprehensive check-up program for those who have recently completed high school to support and find economic enablement support needs as they navigate the transition from high school to their next phase of life. In conclusion, we know that although #GIB graduates have developed a growth mindset and are still interested to develop their leadership capabilities and pursue impact careers, many of our graduates are struggling to access university opportunities or secure funding for further studies. Some are seeking employment, while others are already enrolled in university programmes but face financial barriers to continuing their education.
Currently, we have identified 13 girls in our GIB 2022-2023 Alumni Program who are in need of support. Among them, 5 are not currently in school or employed despite their efforts to secure opportunities, 6 are attending university or college, and 1 is participating in an internship.
We're reaching out to our network for assistance in three key areas: funding, learnership placement, and mentorship. If you're able to provide financial support for expenses such as registration, accomodation fees, historical tertiary debt, toiletries and digital devices such as laptops, offer learnership opportunities, or serve as a mentor to these remarkable young women, we would be incredibly grateful.
Your support could make a profound difference in the lives of these aspiring social entrepreneurs and change-makers. If you have any questions or are interested in contributing to our efforts, please don't hesitate to contact us at gib@oribivillage.com. We will be able to share their details and specific needs.
Additionally, for those who wish to make a donation towards the girls' tuition and necessity costs, you can do so by depositing funds into Oribi's banking account:
