Celebrating World Food Day

Celebrating World Food Day

In honour of World Food Day, we're excited to announce that our incubation team is diligently preparing for our 6th #FoodSystems incubation cohort. Stay tuned for the OPENING OF APPLICATIONS in November.

Why It Matters

Promoting positive impact food businesses and sustainable ecosystems within South Africa's food system has never been more crucial. With ongoing load shedding, increasing inflation, rising food costs, international conflicts, and climate change, it's vital to champion a solidarity economy, social entrepreneurship, and a more sustainable food system.

Startling Stats

Presently, 2.1 million South African families struggle with food insecurity as grocery costs continue to rise. Stats SA data for January 2023 reveals a 14-year high in food inflation (13.4%). Furthermore, a study from the University of Witwatersrand's School of Physiology reports that 1 in 5 South African households lack sufficient food.

Our Solution

Our forthcoming incubation program provides an invaluable opportunity for South African food entrepreneurs whose business concepts positively impact society and the environment. We believe South Africa holds immense potential to enhance its food self-sufficiency and security.

We call upon our network to share this upcoming opportunity. Stay connected with us on social media, monitor our website, and subscribe to our newsletter to ensure you don't miss the open call for applications.

Transport Month

Transport's Role in Food Security

Transportation plays a pivotal role in our daily lives, offering convenience and contributing significantly to our economy. In honor of Transport Month, we had the privilege of attending the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit, where we collaborated with stakeholders in transportation and mobility.

The Smarter Mobility Africa Summit

The Smarter Mobility Africa Summit serves as a vital platform that unites stakeholders in transportation and mobility. It aims to enhance mobility across the African continent by prioritizing the transition to electric and sustainable transportation solutions. This summit fosters innovative ideas, encourages collaboration, and offers valuable networking opportunities.

Sustainable Transport Matters

Sustainable mobility extends beyond the movement of people and goods. It plays a crucial role in climate impact, socioeconomics, and food security.

Food Security Benefits

Improved transportation infrastructure, such as better roads, enhances farmers' access to markets, reducing food waste and increasing the availability of fresh, locally grown food. This is particularly advantageous for rural communities, boosting income generation.

Climate Impact

Traditional transport systems, particularly those reliant on fossil fuels, significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Sustainable mobility solutions mitigate these negative effects, leading to a cleaner and healthier Earth.

Socioeconomic Benefits

Investing in sustainable transportation infrastructure and technology stimulates economic growth, creates employment opportunities, reduces energy expenses, and lessens healthcare costs due to reduced pollution.

Transportation and Food Security

Food security hinges on vital aspects such as food accessibility. Sustainable transport significantly contributes to food security by ensuring better transportation infrastructure, reducing food waste, and promoting a resilient and environmentally friendly food supply chain.

In Conclusion

Sustainable transportation is integral to our modern world, with profound impacts on the environment, economy, and daily life. Organizations like Smarter Mobility Africa and initiatives like Transport Month are diligently working to establish a more sustainable and easily accessible mobility system.

Join us in our mission to create a sustainable future for all.
